The New York State Board of Audit warns New Yorkers to beware of fake NYS “retirement apps” available on Google Play.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has warned state residents not to download or use the app.

“This scam app may be trying to steal your personal data and is not affiliated with NYSLRS or Retirement Online in any way,” the DiNapoli office said. “Retirement Online is only accessible through his website at NYSLRS (New York State and Local Retirement Systems). Always be careful when asked to share personal information.”

This app is intended for employees who qualify for the New York State Retirement Plan. State officials say the app may be trying to steal personal data from state residents.

State officials recommend that residents visit only the osc.state.ny.us website for a safe and secure experience in dealing with retirement issues. According to the state’s website, “Whether you’re a member, retiree or a participating employer, Retirement Online provides a convenient and secure way to do business in the retirement system.”

Online availability:
Monday – Friday: 7:00pm – 6:00pm EST/EDT
Saturday and Sunday: 6:00 am – 11:00 pm EST/EDT

For up-to-date online information, visit your state’s Retirement Online sign-in page. Click here for Member, Retiree, Beneficiary, Employer and Business Partner login page.

New York State also encourages retirement plan residents to visit the NYSLRS website to update their contact information. According to the DiNapoli office, “It’s important to keep your contact information up to date with the NYSLRS. Keeping your current mailing address, phone number, and email address on file will help the state keep track of upcoming appointments. You can be sure that you will receive relevant tax information, news, communications, and statements.” Send to members.
