Dynamic and versatile, Navidi made his professional debut for Cardiff in 2009, represented Wales four years later, and made his debut in 2013, winning 33 Test caps.

Speaking about his retirement, Navidi said: “It is with great sadness, but also great pride, that I am announcing my retirement from rugby.

“I knew this day would come one day, but I don’t think I really prepared myself for how hard it is to put into words how much impact games have had on my life.

“I want to thank everyone at Cardiff Rugby from the bottom of my heart. I started my career at this club in 2009 and the last 14 years have given me so many memories that will last for the rest of my life.”

During his 14-year professional career, Nabidi won the Six Nations Grand Slam with Wales and the Challenge Cup title with Cardiff.

Cardiff Rugby have released a statement on Nabidi’s departure, saying: “Josh Nabidi will retire from rugby with immediate effect after failing to recover well from a serious neck injury.”

Following the club’s statement, head coach Dai Young said: “Josh is proud of his career and everything he has contributed, whether it’s the blue and black or the red jersey. can be very proud of

“He’s been one of the best back-row forwards in the world over the last few years, and although his playing time at Cardiff has been limited in recent years, the contribution he’s made over the past decade is huge.

“He’s been one of the club’s best and most consistent performers season after season, and to earn 184 first-team appearances and 33 caps in such a demanding position is an extraordinary feat.

“Everyone at Cardiff wishes Josh all the best for the future and we look forward to seeing him as a supporter in the future.”
