Romeo Calamat Jr.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine National Police will today celebrate the change of command and retirement of PNP Director General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

However, Malacañan has yet to name a replacement for Azrin.PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo told reporters, “We’re just waiting for an official announcement.”

Among the candidates for top posts in the PNP are Deputy Director General Rodel Sermonia, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Michael Dabria, Chief of the Bureau of Investigations and Detectives, Maj. Gen. Eliseo Cruz, and Deputy Director General. Major General Johnnel Estomo, Metropolitan Police Chief Major General Edgar Okubo, Director of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group, Brig. Gen. Romeo Calamat Jr.

Intelligence Director Major General Benjamin Accorda is also reportedly running.

President Marcos is listed as the guest of honor for today’s event.

Yesterday, the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) held a testimony parade and review of Azurin, who is retiring after reaching the retirement age of 56 on Monday.

Azurin participated in the parade and review at the Mariano Castañeda Camp General Quicero Campos Field in Silang, Cavite.

On Saturday, the outgoing official said his tenure as PNP chief was “like a rollercoaster” and called on Marcos to be careful about who to choose as his successor.
