SNP’s treasurer, Colin Beatty, was arrested by police investigating the party’s fundraising and finances.

Scottish police did not release the name of the arrested man, but said a 71-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday.

“A man has been taken into custody and is being questioned by Scottish Police detectives,” police said.

“The report will be sent to the Crown Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Fiscal Service.”

He added, “The investigation is ongoing and we are unable to comment further.”

The development comes as the SNP continues to be rocked by scandals over the party’s finances.

Earlier this month, former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, husband of Nicola Sturgeon, was arrested in connection with a party financial probe.
