Phoenixville, Pennsylvania — After 13 years as Superintendent of the Phoenixville Area School District, Dr. Alan Fegley plans to retire by the end of August.

“It has been my privilege and honor to serve the students, staff and community of the Phoenixville Area School District for the past 13 years,” Fegley said at a recent school board meeting announcing his retirement decision. said on the occasion.

“After more than 45 years of enjoying every day with my family, I have decided it is time to retire.”

Fegley said she enjoys spending time and traveling with her five grandchildren.

He thanked the school board, administrators, faculty, parents, guardians, parents and community for their support.

He attributes the district’s success over the past decade to everyone’s commitment to making sure every student is included and encouraged.

“Phoenixville is a very special community. I know I will really miss the friendships, yes, even the challenges we faced together,” Fegley said.

Fegley began his career in 2010 as superintendent of a school district that currently has six schools and approximately 4,000 students.

Some of Fegley’s achievements are listed below.

  • Overseeing the new Middle School and Manavon/Early Learning Center buildings.
  • Lead districts to delay school start times by 30 to 45 minutes in 2019-2020.
  • Working with the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation to create HUB, a group of approximately 30 social service agencies that meet every three weeks to support the social and emotional needs of Phoenixville students.
  • Expanding Dual Enrollment Programs with Local Universities and Community Colleges

Fegley grew up in Chester County.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his master’s degree from Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware.

He began his professional career as a special educator at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Prior to coming to Phoenixville, he spent 18 years in public schools in Haddonfield, New Jersey, the last three years serving as elementary school principal, middle school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent.

The school board hired Hazzard, Young, Attea Assoc., a superintendent search firm based in Schaumburg, Illinois, to help find a new superintendent.
