Retirement

Legendary Indian tennis player Sania Mirza announced her retirement from professional tennis earlier this year.

She ended an illustrious career in the first round of the Dubai Open women’s doubles in February 2023.

Widely regarded as India’s greatest women’s tennis player, Mirza won six Grand Slam titles (three in mixed doubles and three in doubles). She also reached the semi-finals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, but she fell just short of a medal.

Mirza made it to the mixed doubles final at the Australian Open earlier this year, but pulled out of the match mainly due to physical and mental exhaustion.

After retiring, Mirza said in an interview with India Today:

It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I think my body is overwhelmed. I know what it takes for me to stay at this level and compete at this level, but I don’t know if I have it in me anymore and if I need to work that hard anymore. don’t understand. So the tank is a little empty.

But the Indian legend continues to keep busy after completing his professional journey.
