Godavari Water Level Rising Rapidly at Bhadrachalam, May Reach Primary Alert Level



Cotagdem: At Bhadrachalam in the same district, the water level of the Godavari River is rising rapidly, reaching 40.80 feet at 8,38,117 kyuseks as of 10am on Thursday.

With continued rainfall and flood discharge from upstream projects, water levels are expected to reach the initial alert level of 43 feet, said District Collector Dr Priyanka Ara. She occasionally issues warnings to government agencies in view of rising water levels.

Collectors have instructed authorities to move residents of villages at risk of flooding to relief centers. She advised villagers not to wait for the floodwaters to reach their villages, but to follow the authorities’ instructions and move to relief centers in advance.

Ara instructed authorities to identify dilapidated houses and transfer residents to rehabilitation centers. Devotees should be prevented from entering the bathing ghats of Bhadrachalam and police patrols should be increased.
