Demetrious Johnson Loses Love for Grind, Suggests Retirement

The sports world could witness the exit of one of the greatest athletes of all time.

ONE Flyweight World Champion Demetrious Johnson has hinted that his trilogy bout with Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III may be the end of his legendary career.

Considered one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, Johnson said in an interview with ONE Championship that he will be more open about his plans after his fight at 1st Bank Center on May 5.

But the American Legend won’t give any details before the Colorado Card takes place.

He said:

“Sometimes I feel that training camp takes me away from it.

Demetrious Johnson added:

“And after this fight is over, I think it will make it clearer why I say why this will be my last fight, or my last ride on this horse, or whatever. I want to clarify it all now. It just wouldn’t be the right time.

“Mighty Mouse” has been in fighting games for over a decade and at 36, he already has one of the best resumes in MMA.

Johnson holds the UFC record for consecutive world title defenses when he defended the flyweight belt 11 times. He then moved to ONE Championship in 2019 to garner even more accolades.

An avid fan of PRIDE and its Grand Prix format, Johnson fulfilled his dream of becoming a tournament winner when he became the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Champion in 2019.

Demetrious Johnson won the ONE Flyweight World Title by knocking out Adriano Moraes in his second fight with ONE on Prime Video 1 in 2022. In doing so, Johnson became the only person to win gold in both ONE Championship and UFC.

He is now looking to end his rivalry with Moraes at ONE Championship’s first onsite event in the United States. ONE Fight Night 10 will be live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
