Beloved Honoi Falls – Lima band teacher celebrates career with retirement concert

Retirement

Haneoi Falls, NY (WROC) — A very special party was held on Sunday, but not on Memorial Day, this party has been in the works for years.

The official retirement concert of Mr. Mark Borden, the band teacher of Honeoi Falls Lima, who I respect and admired, was held. He actually retired three years before he was and had started organizing student reunions for his final show. But of course, the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans as well.

Mr. Bowden spent nearly 40 years at the high school where he was an award-winning band teacher, music pit band conductor, and volleyball coach. An estimated 200-plus former students are expected to attend the social gathering, which will finally take place this weekend.

“It fulfills me. As a teacher, I hope to make a difference in one or two children in my life, but knowing that it is important to many for many different reasons.” , it couldn’t be more rewarding,” Borden said. “It’s just humbling and a huge honor.”

“He was always, always thinking about the students,” said Charlie Smith, a class of ’97 and event organizing committee member. “Everything he did wasn’t just teaching music, it was essentially teaching people, and music was the vehicle.

Humble, shocking, heartwarming, these are all words that Mr. Borden used to describe the support he received from his former students.
