Bachman Jewelers owner looks back on decades of memories before retirement

Retirement

(KNSI) — Countless customers have walked through the doors of Bachman Jewelers for over 95 years. The business helped create happy memories and those customers became like family. Now the owner is ready to turn off the lights and spend time with his family.

Founded by the Bachmans in 1926, Ted Bestgen bought the company from the Bachman family, and John Bestgen bought the store from his father in 1995.

He explained to KNSI News that the decision to make the change was “bittersweet.” “I’m getting old enough to want to take a break and travel. I’ll fish a little more. Play more golf.”

Bestgen says the business is more than just selling someone jewelry. “You’re really involved in the milestones in their life. You might start with engagement rings and wedding rings. And then birthdays, anniversaries, the birth of a child, all of these are milestones when people buy jewelry.” I like to think of jewelry as wearable memories.”

Bestgen adds that he did not do it alone and credits many people along the way. “First of all, I would like to thank all my clients, family and friends, and also all my employees over the years. I’ve had a great group that I’ve worked with, and I think that’s the key to my success.”

If inventory sells out quickly, we plan to close in June or earlier.
