Auburn Diving Coach Jeff Shaffer Announces Retirement

Jeff Shaffer After 24 seasons as head diving coach at Auburn, he announced his retirement on Monday.

Schaeffer’s illustrious career has brought many accolades to Plains. He coached his 7 NCAA champions, 27 his SEC champions, and he has 108 All-American winning divers. Shaffer was part of his coaching staff who led the Tigers to 12 NCAA teams his titles and he led them to 18 SEC championships combined.

“Auburn continues to be an incredibly special place for me and my family,” Shaffer said in a statement from the university. I would like to thank all the divers and their families for believing in me and trusting me for the opportunity here in the Plains and for making diving such an important contributor to Auburn’s success. Finally, I can’t thank David Marsh enough for giving me my first professional coaching status and mentoring me to become the coach I am today, eight times at the Olympics. Shaffer is a two-time NCAA Diving Coach of the Year. He has been named his SEC Diving Coach of the Year eight times, most recently in 2020.

Schaefer’s list of students is long and illustrious. He went on to coach internationally, including the 1994 and 1998 United States national team in friendly games and co-head coaching of the 2005 World University Games. He served as a US assistant at his FINA World Cup in 1997, the 2003 World University Games and the 2004 Athens Olympics, where Auburn’s performances stood out. Caesar Garcia.
